• Project Borenka: a partnership with the Scout Association of Macedonia

• For each drawn virtual tree in the east region Telekom will plant a natural one

Makedonski Telekom is continuing the eco-action aimed at the restoration of the green areas which started last year as a part of the ESG agenda of the company. This year, the initiative for the forestation of the areas afflicted by wildfires continues in partnership with the Scout Association of Macedonia, via the Borenka project.

During the last two years, Macedonia has been afflicted by more than 500 wildfires which have destroyed immense forest areas. It is exactly the reason why a mass forestation action is required, as well as education on environmental protection. The purpose of the partnership is to raise the awareness of a joint action amongst the population and to make a real difference in the restoration of the areas afflicted by wildfires.

Borenka is an action in which all citizens can participate as creators of the virtual forest and as volunteers for forestation by means of joint actions of the municipalities and the Scout Association. At www.borenka.mk there is a map of the virtual forest where everyone can draw and plant their own tree. In the east part a magenta virtual forest will be created/drawn and Makedonski Telekom undertakes to plant a natural tree for each virtual drawn tree.

By the end of the year, the company, alongside the Scout Association and the Public Enterprise Macedonian Forests, will participate in the joint forestation action with a view to restoring the green strip in the east region.

By means of a joint action we can achieve more and, therefore, together with our scout friends, we are calling upon a greater engagement of the citizens and the companies in order to restore the green strip in all areas afflicted by wildfires. As the virtual forest is growing, the number of new trees in nature will be rising.

Makedonski Telekom started the eco-initiative for the forestation of the regions afflicted by wildfires last year with a joint action together with the customers for collecting old devices, which were adequately recycled in cooperation with Zero Waste. For the total number of collected devices the company planted new trees. In other words, thus far 20 000 old devices have been collected and 25 000 new trees have been planted.

The restoration of the natural resources and the reduction of electronic waste are our duty and strategic priority. With the partnership with the Scout Association of Macedonia we are expanding our field of action and we are initiating education and mass actions in order to make a real difference.
